Medical Disclaimer
The calculators, guides, and other content on Calorie Calculator (“the Site”) are provided for general informational and educational purposes only. Please read this disclaimer carefully before relying on anything you read or calculate here.
Not medical advice
Nothing on the Site is medical advice, and nothing here is a substitute for professional diagnosis, treatment, or dietary guidance. The Site does not constitute the practice of medicine, nursing, dietetics, or any other professional healthcare, and using it does not create a doctor–patient or clinician–client relationship. Always seek the advice of your physician, a registered dietitian, or another qualified health professional with any questions about your health, nutrition, or a medical condition.
Estimates only
Calorie, energy-expenditure, and body-composition formulas produce population-level estimates. They are based on averages and cannot account for your complete health picture — your genetics, medical history, medications, hormones, or other individual factors. Real results vary from person to person, and no calculator can tell you exactly how many calories you personally need or how your body will respond. Treat every result as a starting point, not a prescription, and verify important decisions with a professional.
A note on sex and our formulas
Some of our calculators ask for sex because equations such as Mifflin-St Jeor and Harris-Benedict use different coefficients for male and female reference groups. Other equations, such as Katch-McArdle, rely primarily on estimated lean body mass rather than a male/female setting. These formulas were derived from specific study populations and may be less accurate for transgender or non-binary people, and for anyone whose body composition differs from those populations. If you are unsure which setting to use, or how to interpret your result, consider speaking with a healthcare professional.
Talk to a professional first
Consult your physician or a registered dietitian before starting any diet, exercise program, or weight-management plan based on information from the Site — and especially before doing so if you:
- are pregnant or nursing;
- are under 18 or over 65;
- have or are recovering from an eating disorder or a history of disordered eating;
- have diabetes, or heart, kidney, liver, or thyroid conditions, or any other medical condition;
- are taking medication that affects your metabolism, appetite, or weight.
Very-low-calorie diets, and calorie targets substantially below your estimated needs, should only be followed under appropriate professional supervision. Any minimum figures shown by the calculators are general reference points, not safe limits for everyone; your own needs depend on your age, size, activity, health, and goals.
In an emergency
Do not use the Site for urgent medical needs. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call your doctor or your local emergency number immediately. Never disregard or delay seeking professional medical advice because of something you read or calculated on the Site.
Third-party content
The Site may reference studies, guidelines, or third-party resources and may link to other websites. Those references are provided for information only and do not represent an endorsement. We are not responsible for the accuracy or content of third-party material.
Assumption of risk
Your use of the Site and any reliance on its content or calculator results is entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Calorie Calculator accepts no liability for any loss, injury, or damage arising from the use of, or reliance on, the Site. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law. This disclaimer forms part of our Terms of Service.
