Editorial Policy

Our goal is simple: give you calculators and guidance you can trust. This policy describes the standards we follow so that what you read is accurate, evidence-based, and clearly explained.

Who writes our content

Our calculators and guides are created by the Calorie Calculator editorial team. We are not a medical provider. Unless a page clearly states that it has been reviewed by a licensed professional, our content has not been medically reviewed, and it should be read alongside our Medical Disclaimer.

Evidence-based, primary sources first

Our formulas and health claims are grounded in peer-reviewed research and official guidance — for example, the Mifflin-St Jeor, Harris-Benedict, and Katch-McArdle equations, USDA food data, and the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, along with guidance from bodies such as the CDC and WHO. Where the science offers more than one accepted method, we say so and, where useful, let you choose between formulas rather than hiding the difference. Our formulas and key health claims are drawn from published, citable sources such as those named above.

How we build our calculators

Each calculator is built from published, well-established equations. We note which formula each tool uses and explain its assumptions and limits on the page, so you understand what the number does — and does not — mean.

How we research and write

Guides and articles are researched from reputable sources and written to be clear, practical, and honest about uncertainty. We prefer primary sources — original studies, official datasets, and clinical guidelines — over second-hand summaries, and we aim to reflect the current consensus rather than fads. Where a topic is debated, we try to present the balance of evidence.

Review and updates

Where a page shows a “last updated” date, that reflects when it was most recently reviewed. We update content when the formulas, guidelines, or data it relies on change.

Clear limits and medical caution

Our calculators produce estimates for education, not medical advice. We provide clear medical cautions across our calculator pages and encourage you to consult a qualified professional before making significant changes. See our Medical Disclaimer for details.

Editorial independence — no pay-to-say

Our content is independent. Advertisers do not influence our calculators, results, or the conclusions of our guides, and we do not accept payment to present a product or view favorably. Editorial decisions are made on merit alone.

Advertising and how we are funded

The Site is free to use and is supported by advertising through Google AdSense, which helps us keep the tools free. We keep advertising separate from, and distinguishable from, our editorial content, and the presence of an ad is not an endorsement. Ads never change the results a calculator produces. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies work and the choices you have.

Use of AI tools

We may use software tools, including AI assistance, to help draft or format content. Where we do, the final content is intended to meet the standards described here, and we remain responsible for everything published on the Site.

Corrections

We correct mistakes as soon as we can. If you spot an error in a calculator or an article, please tell us at [email protected] or through our Contact page, and we will investigate and fix it.
